What is a UX Unicorn?
I’M A VETERAN UX GENERALIST WHO CAN ALSO PROGRAM
Hi, I’m Edward Vitralis and I do it all! I’m a lead level UX generalist, meaning I am proficient in Interaction Design (IxD/UX), Visual Design (VxD/UI), and User Research, as well as being fully at home in leadership roles. I can also program, which not only tempers my designs to be realistic, but allows me to communicate with development teams based on mutual understanding.
I have over a decade of UX experience in a variety of fields at companies of all sizes. While the bulk of my professional experience centers around creating solutions for enterprise level software and big data sets, I’m also right at home creating highly personalized unique designs for boutique applications. I thrive in smaller environments that allow me to use as many of my skills as possible. There are few things more satisfying to me than spending a day firing on all pistons and helping people in multiple ways. I love exciting environments where people are appreciated for dipping into many different roles.
My experience ranges from positions as a lone generalist designer all the way up to massive teams with specialized roles where I served as a dedicated Interaction Designer. In smaller companies, I would tackle all UX disciplines including research, wireframing, building UIs, and even writing CSS and HTML as needed. In growing companies, I would evangelize UX practices to all stakeholders and recruit designers to build and manage teams to serve the firm’s evolving needs. In the largest companies, I would learn as much as possible while performing in my specific role to the best of my abilities as well as mentoring and teaching at every opportunity.
I believe in teaching, mentoring, and sharing as much knowledge as possible everywhere I go. I have a personal motto: anything I know how to do is fair game to anyone who wants to learn it. I greatly enjoy environments that encourage and appreciate knowledge transfers both between different levels of employees and also different departments.
A Broad Skill Set
INTERACTION DESIGN • VISUAL DESIGN • RESEARCH • LEADERSHIP
No matter the size of the company, I can bring expertise to the project. Whether you need someone to assemble and lead a team, write and build a cohesive design system and style guide, create a comprehensive research plan, or just make design collateral all day, I love every minute of it.

Design Philosophy
WITHOUT A FRAMEWORK, WE ARE LOST
The goal of a [UX Designer] is not to make it possible to be understood, but rather to make it impossible to be misunderstood.
The above quote has been the guiding master principle of my life, and consequently all of my style guides, since I first heard it in 2002. I strive for maximal clarity and minimal ambiguity in all of my designs and writings.
